Top Changes to Make for a Safer New Year

Are you considering New Year’s resolutions to make 2015 your best year yet? If you are considering ways to make your life better, consider these changes you can make to make 2015 not only your best year, but also your safest year:

1) Improve your driving skills.

Car accidents remain one of the leading causes of injury and fatalities for many age groups. For most of us, driving a car is the most dangerous thing we do every year, so improving our driving skills can help us avoid one of the biggest risks of injury we may face. Consider signing up for refresher or defensive driving courses. If you are hoping to make 2015 more exciting, take racing classes. Racing classes help boost your driving skills and are a lot of fun.

2) Get safety devices for your home.

It may not be the most exciting shopping trip you make this holiday season, but getting smoke detectors, fire extinguishers, carbon monoxide detectors, and a safety alarm system for your home and pool can potentially save your life. Install smoke detectors, fire extinguishers, and carbon monoxide detectors on each floor. If you have a pool, have an alarm system to warn you of any trespassers. A safety alarm system for your home can not only protect you from intruders but some systems also have a direct link to emergency services in case you have a health emergency or sustain a serious injury at home and need immediate help.

3) Take a no-drinking-and-driving and no-distracted-driving pledge.

Distracted driving in Homestead and other communities is a leading cause of car collisions and injuries, as is drunk driving. These two causes of traffic crashes are also completely preventable. Make a resolution to drive sober and focused and encourage others in your life to do the same. It could be the most important resolution you make this year.

4) Get fit.

In many cases, you may be able to reduce the risk of more serious injury by being in good physical shape. Doctors agree that patients who are out of shape and in poor physical condition are more likely to be injured in car accidents, falls, and other types of accidents. They may also take longer to recover and face a higher risk of complications. Passengers who are obese, for example, may be more at risk of serious injury and fatalities in car accidents when compared with patients who are in good physical condition. Obese patients are also more at risk of complications related to anesthesia during surgery, according to some research.

5) Get CRP and safety training.

If your workplace offers it, get safety training. On your own, getting first aid, CPR, or boating safety courses (if you are a boating enthusiast) can help you avoid injury and can help you learn what you should do if you are injured. Learning about safety is always a smart investment.

Charlie is a very skilled attorney that advocates hard for his clients. But the best part is he is an all around great guy. He cares about helping and doing what is right for people and his community. And he is not afraid to fight against those who do wrong or against threats to our world. He is fluent in Spanish as well. Do yourself a favor and call him. Andy
★★★★★
I had a lawyer on another case and I never spoke to the lawyer and I hated that I never knew what was going on in my case. Mr. Flaxman was in constant communication with me, explained everything to me, and his staff was really great too. My phone calls were always returned immediately. It was refreshing to be able to speak to my attorney personally. I would HIGHLY recommend Mr. Flaxman as an attorney to anyone who has been in an accident. Gloria
