Right now, some medical appointments in Hollywood and South Florida are being taken virtually in order to help reduce the spread of the novel coronavirus and to protect the patient’s health. Telemedicine can happen through videoconferencing apps and over the phone. Telemedicine can be a great alternative in helping you avoid exposure while still allowing you access to medical knowledge and expert care. However, there are some challenges with telemedicine which you should be aware of.

Since virtual care providers do not see you in person, they may not notice some symptoms which are evident when they are in the same room as patients. Telemedicine appointments can also be brief and since this is a new form of communication to both patients and some doctors, communication between doctors and patients can be different. In some cases, this can impact care.

Medical malpractice claims in southern Florida are intended to help protect patients who have been injured due to the recklessness and negligence of medical professionals. Medical malpractice claims arise when someone is misdiagnosed, incorrectly treated, or suffers another issue caused by recklessness or negligence. If you have a doctor-patient relationship and a doctor causes injury through their actions, you may have a claim.

Right now, medical malpractice claims are more complex. With the COVID-19 pandemic, some patients believe they have contacted COVID-19 in a hospital or clinic setting. However, they don’t always know whether they have a strong claim. In addition, with hospitals sometimes overrun and with patients worried about the coronavirus, some patients find that their care is being delayed or is being affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. They, too, wonder if they have a legal claim.

Misdiagnosis is a serious concern in Hollywood and across South Florida. When a medical professional misses the signs of a serious illness, patients may not get the treatment they need. Medical malpractice cases in South Florida can also occur when incorrect treatment is given. If the wrong site is operated on or if you are given treatment intended for another patient or another illness you don’t have, you may have a claim.

Overdiagnosis and overtreatment get far less attention, but they are also causes of concern. Overdiagnosis and overtreatment refer to exceedingly vigorous diagnosis and unneeded treatment, which can lead to injury and complications. For example, if a patient has a small thyroid tumor and they are subjected to radiation or chemo when the tumor is benign or unlikely to cause averse effects, the patient may suffer serious complications or injury as a result of the treatment, even though the treatment may not be needed.

If you have been injured after visiting a Hollywood or South Florida hospital, clinic, or doctor’s office, you may think you have a medical malpractice claim, especially if your injuries resulted in complications or extra medical bills. In reality, medical malpractice claims can be extremely complex and difficult to prove, even in cases where it appears clear that negligence occurred and that devastating injury resulted.

There are many reasons why proving medical malpractice claims is difficult in Hollywood and in Florida:

For people with serious knee problems, knee implants promise improved mobility and less pain. According to the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons (AAOS), about 700,000 knee replacement surgeries were performed, with about 5% of Americans over the age of 50 having at least one knee implant.

While knee implants can make life easier, defective knee implants have been linked to serious complications. In the past few years, a number of knee implant recalls have affected many patients in Hollywood and across the country. Some patients have launched their own product liability claims in South Florida and Hollywood against manufacturers of the devices.

Wrong site surgery happens when the wrong part or the wrong patient is operated upon. This can happen if a patient’s left lung is operated on, for example, when the patient went in for surgery on their right lung. In some cases, wrong site surgery means that the wrong limb is amputated or even that there is a patient mix-up, where a patient has a surgery intended for someone else.

Wrong site surgery can be devastating. It can mean that a patient loses a healthy limb or suffers serious complications from a medical procedure they should never have received. According to statistics, about 90 wrong site surgeries happen in American hospitals each year – and many are preventable.

Suicide can be one of the most devastating situations a family will face. Losing a loved one is always distressing, but having that loss be self-inflicted is often overwhelming. It’s common for surviving friends and family to have many questions: Could this have been prevented? Why did this happen?

Suicide often leaves clues. In many cases, a person will be diagnosed with depression and will be getting treatment for their condition. In some situations, someone who is considering suicide will reach out to mental health professionals, doctors, or other authorities. If they are getting help, friends and family may assume that their loved one is safe. It can make a sudden loss even more of a shock.

When you have surgery under local anesthesia, the anesthesiologist will sometimes administer nerve block to temporarily disrupt the signals within the nerves. This is usually done by injecting lidocaine or bupivacaine. With these injections, the nerve block will usually last a few hours, keeping that area of the body immobilized and free of pain so a surgeon can operate on the area safely without hurting you. As the injections wear off, you should be able to resume normal use of your limbs and nerves.

Unfortunately, while most of the time nerve blocks are administered correctly and wear off normally, some patients experience complications. In cases where the complications may have been caused by medical or anesthesia malpractice in Hollywood or South Florida, contact Flaxman Law Group for a free case evaluation. If negligence played a role in your injuries, you may have a legal claim.

Many families today choose to have a natural birth at home when they are expecting a new addition. Medical technology allows expecting mothers to have more control than ever before about where and how they give birth. For many, the idea of being able to give birth in the familiarity and privacy of the home is a great comfort. Midwives are available to help couples with the home birth process to ensure that everything goes smoothly for both mother and child.

Most midwives study extensively and offer excellent care for families. They are professionals of the highest order and deliver many healthy babies into the world. However, midwife malpractice claims in Hollywood and South Florida do happen. Often, they occur because parents were not warned about the risks of home birth or because negligence caused serious injury to the mother or child.

Charlie is a very skilled attorney that advocates hard for his clients. But the best part is he is an all around great guy. He cares about helping and doing what is right for people and his community. And he is not afraid to fight against those who do wrong or against threats to our world. He is fluent in Spanish as well. Do yourself a favor and call him. Andy
I had a lawyer on another case and I never spoke to the lawyer and I hated that I never knew what was going on in my case. Mr. Flaxman was in constant communication with me, explained everything to me, and his staff was really great too. My phone calls were always returned immediately. It was refreshing to be able to speak to my attorney personally. I would HIGHLY recommend Mr. Flaxman as an attorney to anyone who has been in an accident. Gloria
