Take These Simple Steps to Improve Your Family’s Safety During Injury Prevention Month

April has been declared injury prevention month by the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons. The next few weeks are a good time to protect yourself against serious injuries that could affect your mobility and your health and safety. According to the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, there are several things that you can do to prevent injury in your home and workplace:

1) Reduce your risk of falls.

Falls are one of the most serious workplace injuries and also one of the most common injuries in the home. Falls can lead to fractures, head injuries, and even life-threatening injuries, especially for the elderly. Unfortunately, falls can happen anywhere. To avoid them, wear sturdy shoes, check your medication for side effects such as dizziness, and report any faintness or dizziness to your doctor so that you can treat these symptoms. Always use the proper stepladder or stepstool when trying to reach high shelves or cupboards.

2) Do an injury assessment.

Walk through your home or workplace, looking for potential hazards. If you find any dangers – such as frayed electrical cords, extension cords tucked under rugs, overworked space heaters, and other dangers – take action immediately to remove these issues from the workplace or your home. Your workplace should also have a formal injury assessment as well as a safety program to keep you safe.

3) Focus on head and spinal care and safety.

The American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons reports that injuries to the spinal cord and head tend to be the most serious. Focus on keeping your neck, head, and back safe by wearing proper sports equipment when exercising, by using common sense, and by always buckling up when you drive.

4) Exercise.

If your New Year’s resolution to get fit has fallen by the wayside, it’s time to recommit. Regular exercise can improve your core strength, making you more agile and stable. Staying fit also keeps joints and muscles flexible, which can help prevent injury.

5) Reduce your risk of car accidents.

Most safety experts agree that car crashes are one of the most common causes of injuries. While you can’t control how other people drive in Hollywood or your Florida community, you can make yourself a safer driver. Always drive defensively, and keep your car in good condition so that it can rely on your vehicle to get you to your destination safely. If you have had fender benders or near misses recently, consider taking a refresher course to get help with your driving skills.

Charlie is a very skilled attorney that advocates hard for his clients. But the best part is he is an all around great guy. He cares about helping and doing what is right for people and his community. And he is not afraid to fight against those who do wrong or against threats to our world. He is fluent in Spanish as well. Do yourself a favor and call him. Andy
I had a lawyer on another case and I never spoke to the lawyer and I hated that I never knew what was going on in my case. Mr. Flaxman was in constant communication with me, explained everything to me, and his staff was really great too. My phone calls were always returned immediately. It was refreshing to be able to speak to my attorney personally. I would HIGHLY recommend Mr. Flaxman as an attorney to anyone who has been in an accident. Gloria
I found Mr. Flaxman to be an excellent attorney for my personal injury case. This is actually the second time I have used him and he really represented my interests. He explained everything thoroughly and he was very available for my questions. Carol
