Safe Travel Tips for Hollywood, Miami, and Florida

In the spring and summer, millions of people travel to Miami in Hollywood from outside the state to take part in our tourism opportunities. Hollywood and Miami have much to offer, including world-class restaurants, art galleries, beaches, and more.

If you’ll be traveling to the South Florida area this year, we at Flaxman Law Group want to ensure you have a terrific time. Part of that means staying safe. While millions of people travel to Hollywood and Miami without any issues each year, there are a few things you can do to avoid any potential hazards:

1) Consider letting someone else do the driving.

Statistics show you’re more likely to be in a car accident when you’re driving in an unfamiliar area. You may simply not know what to look out for and may be distracted with trying to find your way rather than focusing on the road. Hiring a driver service or using taxis or public transportation can help you avoid a car accident in Hollywood, Miami, or the other cities you’re visiting. You may also take bus tours or chartered buses with other travelers.

2) Tell someone where you’re going and check in often.

Let friends and family know where you’re traveling and check in regularly so they will know if something’s wrong.

3) Be careful about electronic safety.

Personal safety isn’t your only concern. You want to avoid fraud and identity theft. To stay safe, avoid using sending sensitive information over public  Wi-Fi and change passwords often. In addition, you might want to invest in RFID-blocking wallets or sleeves to protect your credit cards and bank cards from electronic theft.

4) Check tour operators and other tourist businesses online.

While staying in Hollywood or Miami, you’re likely want to take part in some fun activities. Whether you decide to try parasailing, boating, bus towards, or any other activity, make sure you check out the businesses. All businesses should be registered, licensed, and have a good safety record. Don’t be afraid to ask questions. Good businesses are proud to share their safety information with you.

5) Keep personal information and cash close to your vest.

Don’t over-share personal information and don’t flash around money or expensive purchases. Keep your wallet well-hidden on your person and only take out the amount you need. It will make you less of a target for muggings and theft.

6) Be aware of your surroundings.

While most of South Florida and Hollywood are considered safe areas, stay aware of your surroundings. You may not know which areas are safest, so it pays to use caution and common sense at all times.

7) Be careful what you post on social media.

Avoid posting information about your trip until you get home. That way, you won’t be revealing your home may be sitting empty while you vacation.
