March is Save Your Vision Month

This month is Save Your Vision Month. Whether you wear glasses or have perfect 20/20 vision, there are several things you can do this month to take care of your eyes:

1) Get an eye exam.

Even if your eyes are healthy, keep in mind that some diseases have no symptoms. Regular check-ups can catch and address any problems. If you do wear contacts or glasses, regular eye exams ensure that you have the right prescription.

2) Make sure that everyone in your family – including elderly family members and children – get a yearly eye exam.

The elderly can suffer from macular degeneration, cataracts, and other age-related problems. Early detection and treatment are important. Children might not notice that they need glasses and may be suffering from blurry vision or headaches because they don’t realize they need glasses.

3) Buy sunglasses.

The sun in Miami and the rest of Florida can be damaging to your eyes. It can also lead to car accidents in Miami and other communities, since the sun’s glare can prevent drivers from seeing correctly. With summer around the corner, invest in a few pairs of quality sunglasses so that you can always keep a pair in your home, workplace, and car. Be sure to wear them to keep your eyes safe.

4) Know the signs of eye problems.

If you get frequent headaches or notice that your vision has changed, it’s time to see a doctor. If you notice sudden vision changes, bright flashes of light, or other problems, consider it a medical emergency and seek help right away. Prompt treatment can help save your vision.

5) Get the proper protection gear at your workplace.

Workplace injuries in Miami or your community can affect your vision – sometimes permanently. If you work in construction, in a laboratory, or any industry where eye injuries can be an issue, make sure that you wear the right protective equipment to stay safe. Get workplace training on the correct ways to prevent and treat eye injuries.

6) Protect your eyes during recreation.

Do you swim, ride a motorcycle, or play contact sports? Keep in mind that some fun activities can be dangerous for your eyes. If you like to swim, for example, wear goggles to protect your eyes from chlorine or impurities in the water. If you play a sport such as hockey, wear a face visor to protect your face and eyes from impact. When riding a motorcycle, keep your eyes protected from dust and debris.

Have you suffered an eye injury in a workplace accident or car crash? Get legal advice before you make any decisions. If your eye injuries were caused by negligence or recklessness, you may have a civil claim and you may be able to pursue compensation in a settlement or court case. This compensation can help you pay for glasses and the best possible treatment for your eyes.

I had a lawyer on another case and I never spoke to the lawyer and I hated that I never knew what was going on in my case. Mr. Flaxman was in constant communication with me, explained everything to me, and his staff was really great too. My phone calls were always returned immediately. It was refreshing to be able to speak to my attorney personally. I would HIGHLY recommend Mr. Flaxman as an attorney to anyone who has been in an accident. Gloria
