Safety Tips for your Homestead Pool

If you have a pool at home, you’ll want to be able to enjoy it all summer long. You’ll also want to make sure that it is safe for all of your family and all of your guests to enjoy. There are several ways you can ensure safety while preventing injuries at your Homestead pool:

1) Install no-slip areas around the pool.

One of the biggest risks with pools are slip and fall incidents. By installing no slip treads along the areas leading up to and into the pool area, you can ensure anyone walking with slippery feet will have some traction to prevent slips.

2) Have your pool professionally maintained.

A professional can ensure that drains are properly protected and that the pool is safe to swim in. If you don’t want to hire a professional, make sure you teach yourself how to safely maintain your pool. Make sure you know how to keep the pool area properly lit and how to keep drains and other area safe.

3) Teach everyone at your home to swim.

Make sure everyone in your family knows how to swim. Encourage your friends and family to get their children to swimming lessons early. Strong swimming skills can help prevent drowning incidents.

4) Install a tall fence with a self-locking gate.

Children may be attracted to an unguarded pool. Make sure your pool area is properly secured so unwanted visitors can’t get in.

5) Install an alarm.

Even with the best fencing and gates, some trespassers may enter your pool area. Unfortunately, if they do and they get injured, you may be held liable in a premises liability claim in a Homestead court. Installing an alarm that alerts you when there is any movement in your pool area can help you avoid this problem.

6) Go over pool rules and post them in the pool area.

Rules such as “no running around the pool” and “no swimming alone” are important to enforce. Ensure that no one is taking risks with the water. Go over your rules with your family and with any guests who visit.

7) Take first aid classes.

CPR classes and water safety classes mean you will know what to do if someone does get into trouble in your pool. Keep pool safety equipment near your pool in case there is an emergency.

8) Swim together.

Never swim alone and ensure everyone in your home knows not to swim alone. If there are children in the pool area, make sure there are at least two adults present at all times. Never leave children unattended in a pool. If you are having a pool party and there are multiple people in the pool, ask everyone to climb out of the pool every once in a while to ensure everyone in accounted for.

I had a lawyer on another case and I never spoke to the lawyer and I hated that I never knew what was going on in my case. Mr. Flaxman was in constant communication with me, explained everything to me, and his staff was really great too. My phone calls were always returned immediately. It was refreshing to be able to speak to my attorney personally. I would HIGHLY recommend Mr. Flaxman as an attorney to anyone who has been in an accident. Gloria
