March is National Brain Injury Awareness Month and it’s a great time to raise awareness about traumatic brain injury (TBI), which can be a life-altering or fatal injury to sustain. Many traumatic brain injuries occur due to blunt force trauma to the brain. When this happens, the brain shakes around inside the skull, which can cause bruising and bleeding to occur. In some cases, the brain swells due to the injury and because of the skull there is no place for the brain to go, causing pressure which can cause further damage to the brain tissue.

Brain injuries can also occur if a person’s brain is deprived of oxygen for an extended period of time, as can occur with some birth injuries or with near-drownings. Injury can also occur if the skull is pierced and the tissue inside is directly impacted.

Buses are used in many environments. In Florida theme parks, buses are used to transport tourists to attractions. Around cities, they are used as mass transit. Church groups, schools, airports, and other organizations all rely on these motor vehicles to transport people.

Yet while bus accidents are less common than car accidents, these collisions do happen. Common types of bus accidents in Cooper City and the surrounding area include:

Women may visit an OB-GYN in Homestead for many reasons related to pregnancy, fertility, and other health issues. While the goal with these visits is to help women, some women face misdiagnosis and medical malpractice which results in injury and trauma.

Misdiagnosis happens for many reasons. In some cases, such as ovarian cancer, there are simply not the advanced and reliable tests available to ensure accurate diagnosis and the tests that do exist – such as blood tests – are not always suggested. There is also some evidence that medical schools do not always emphasize women’s health as a separate entity and bias as well as lack of research into conditions affecting women can also impact diagnosis.

Asbestos was used in industry, manufacturing, and in home construction for decades. Today, we know that asbestos exposure can cause mesothelioma, an aggressive form of cancer, but since the time between exposure and diagnosis can be decades, it can be difficult for injured patients to seek the justice and compensation they deserve.

If you have worked in manufacturing, industry, or have lived or worked on a property where you suspect you may have been exposed to asbestos, you will want to advise your doctor so you can be screened carefully for cancer affecting the lungs and the linings of your vital organs.

New research in spinal cord injury treatment is being developed all the time, and recent breakthroughs are especially promising for patients. One recent development in spinal cord implants has allowed a man with a severe spinal cord injury to walk again. Developers of the implant, which sends electrical impulses to the muscles much like the brain does, are hopeful the technology can be used to help other patients regain mobility after traumatic injury. Currently, the development team is still conducting trials.

Another breakthrough in research is also important, although for a different reason. A study published by a team of Michigan researchers has found that patients with spinal cord injury had an 80% heightened risk of developing anxiety, depression, and other psychological disorders when compared with individuals who didn’t have a spinal cord injury. Researchers in the study concluded that more mental health support and better early detection of such conditions are needed for spinal cord injury patients.

Religious institutions can and are sued when they act in negligent or criminal ways. The Episcopal Church, for example, has faced property claims while the Roman Catholic Church has settled claims related to sexual abuse cases. While they don’t make the news as often, personal injury and premises liability cases in Miami and across the country are filed against churches.

We head to the gym to get healthier and stronger. We don’t expect to leave in worse health, but unfortunately Miami gym injuries do happen. Each year, people suffer sprains, fractures, soft tissue injuries, head injuries, spinal cord trauma, and other serious injuries in fitness facilities. Recovering from these injuries can be costly and time-consuming, disrupting income and lives. If your injuries were caused by the workout facility’s negligence, you may have a Miami premises liability claim.

Homestead residents who attend a church, synagogue, or other place of worship turn to their faith to help them grow spiritually with others. No one attends a service or religious event expecting to be injured, yet this situation affects many people of faith every year. Whether you are attending a place of worship for a religious event or regular service, a social event, for volunteer work, or for another cause, if you have been injured by the organization’s negligence, you may have a claim.

Types of Injuries On Religious Organization Grounds

No matter what kind of faith service you are attending, you have a reasonable expectation to be safe and your church, mosque, or other place of worship has a duty to take reasonable steps to keep you safe. Despite this, there are many types of injuries that happen at places of worship:

I had a lawyer on another case and I never spoke to the lawyer and I hated that I never knew what was going on in my case. Mr. Flaxman was in constant communication with me, explained everything to me, and his staff was really great too. My phone calls were always returned immediately. It was refreshing to be able to speak to my attorney personally. I would HIGHLY recommend Mr. Flaxman as an attorney to anyone who has been in an accident. Gloria
